An arc welding process where the metals are fused together at high temperatures by use of a tungsten electrode tip. Typically no metal is deposited  but rather two metals are fused. The arc is shielded by a continuous flow of argon or some other inert gas which helps stability and control of the weld temperature. Sometimes filler metals are used when a stronger weld is desired.
